The Loss of a Feminist Icon

Gloria Steinem, one of the most recognized and influential feminist activists has passed away. She was a trailblazer, champion for equal rights and spoke globally to end gender violence.  She has had a positive impact on women around the world, but her legacy and lifelong work doesn't end with her death. We must continue to pass the torch on, to actively defend equality, fight injustices and protect hard won rights.

"When unique voices are united in a common cause, they make history." - Gloria Steinem

Hot Flash!

We are in the dog days of summer and while many look forward to these sun filled days, many women experiencing perimenopause or menopause may find their symptoms worsen. Those warm nights definitely won't help with the night sweats and sleep disruptions, which then lead to increased brain fog...UGH, does it ever end?

Remember to stay hydrated and eat cooling foods like cucumber or watermelon. Staying away from spicy foods may help. Put cold cloths on pulse points, such as wrists, behind the knees or back of  the neck. Wear loose clothing and avoid synthetic materials. If your symptoms interfere with your day to day life, speak with your Dr. about HRT.

If anyone has any tips and tricks for managing symptoms, please share in comments or send to me and I'm happy to post! You are not alone on this wild ride!

World Cup and Intimate Partner Violence

The World Cup is here and while it can be a very exciting time for many, for others it can be a time of terror. Heightened emotions and drinking that comes with high profile sporting events can exacerbate intimate partner violence.

Battered Women's Support Services in Vancouver will be expanding its resources and crisis centre hours until the end of FIFA. There will also be outreach teams stationed in areas around the city during the World Cup: Granville St pedestrian zone,  the PNE grounds and along False Creek.
